Will Mwangaza really look like a calculator to anyone who checks my phone?+

Yes — or one of 7 other disguises you can pick instead: a shopping app, a weather app etc. Whichever you choose is fully functional. There's no Mwangaza logo, splash screen, or notification that gives it away — your dashboard only appears after you enter your secret code.

Can I change what the app looks like later?+

Yes, anytime. From your dashboard settings, pick any of the 8 disguises — the app icon and home screen name update immediately, and your safety code works the same across all of them.

What if my phone is taken from me during an emergency?+

Once an SOS is sent, it's already on its way to your contacts — taking the phone afterwards doesn't undo it. The floating SOS button also works with the screen off, so you don't need to unlock anything to send help.

Can I add more than 3 emergency contacts?+

Standard supports up to 3 emergency contacts, Premium up to 5. Each one must accept an SMS invite before they can receive your alerts, and you can swap names or numbers at any time from your dashboard.

How much does Mwangaza cost?+

Mwangaza is free to download and install. Standard is KES 100 per year, Premium is KES 300 per year, both payable via M-Pesa. Family and organisation plans use fair, shared billing — see the plan comparison below.

Is my location and audio data private?+

Your location and recordings are only ever sent to the emergency contacts you've added and accepted. Mwangaza has no ads, no analytics trackers, and doesn't sell or share your data with third parties.

Can I cover my family under one plan?+

Yes. Start a Family Plan, invite members by phone number, and once they accept they're covered on Premium instantly. Billing is shared under one admin who pays via M-Pesa. See how the Family Plan works →
